I heard this fantastic sermon in church on Sunday that was the best advice ever for how we know it is/it isn't God all credit to Godfirst at Rosebank for this...
Filters to know it's GOD
⬆️Up
Would God say that? Is it God's nature and character?
The Fruit of the Spirit is a good place to start as found in Galatians 5:22
⬇️Down
Is it Scriptural? Is it contextually scriptural? Find at these 3 verses not just one out of context.
↘️In
Is it in tune with your own character, your giftings, your passions?
If you suddenly think God's calling you to be a Worship Leader but you have no musical ability and are tone deaf chances are that's not God.
↙️Out
Is it wise? Is it common sense? Is the timing right? Does it give you peace?
↩️Around
What do the people around you say who you trust?
Finally 3 pieces of advice that have served me well
1. It's easier to drive a moving car than a parked one, keep driving God can redirect you if your driving in the wrong direction.. Plus assume everything is a green light until it's a red light not the other way around
2. Look for the pull not the push... If your feeling pulled chances are it's God
3. Failure is never quite so frightening as regret! I would rather fail than regret being too scared to try!
May you sense His peace as you wrestle with this! God is good and His timing is perfect!
