Actually that's not strictly true- airports are great places when you're waiting for a loved one or leaving to go see loved ones.... and that whole airport scene in Love Actually- totally cute!!
I digress...
What I actually hate is that window about 3 hours before you leave when you're calculating how long it's going to take you to get to the airport, add extra time for your mother to find an earring she just has to wear, or not being able to find the car keys or like me tonight waiting through 8 sets of traffic light changes because they're upgrading the road and it's reduced to 2 lanes instead of 3. RAAAH!!!
So stressful!!!
The 8 sets of traffic light changes undone me a little. I ended up calling a cab to come and pick me up as I knew that after leaving the car at my brother's house and walking to the train I probably would have missed the plane.
The cab driver who collected me turned out to be a Christian and we ended up talking about Heidi Baker's "plane anointing".. because she has to travel so often with a tight schedule she is undoubtedly late. Unfailing though she catches her planes and generally gets a free upgrade into the bargain. I told the cab driver that I definitely wanted one of those!
He laughed and said that I already had a "plain" anointing.
It's funny I sat there and realised I was stressing about something that had already been taken care of.. I've been so blessed when it comes to travel- I've never missed a plane and if I did- how much of a problem is that really? I've had extra luggage carried for free because I didn't have any money on me, I've had free upgrades to business class from Johannesburg to Entebbe and yet I still stress!
As we pulled up the kerb, I paid the driver (who gave me a hug!) and got out I realised that God's hand was in my travel situation and He makes a way- its His way not mine and I just need to learn to relax...
Maybe airports aren't so bad after all...
